A few weeks ago, Dominik Mysterio was proudly presenting Rhea Ripley’s backside after her successful women’s title defense at WWE Backlash 2023 premium live event. This picture does tell that the two have grown a really good equation with each other over time as they play the role of an on-screen couple. However, things weren’t obviously that smooth between these two.
Given their attitude and character portrayal, the pair Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio has drawn comparisons to Eddie Guerrero and Chyna’s pairing from the Attitude Era and this is also the reason why the WWE Universe actually cares a lot for these two despite them being top heels. His strong dynamic also helped the WWE Superstars to have gotten over with the WWE audience on the red brand.

In recent times, Rhea Ripley spoke with WWE broadcaster Peter Rosenberg for his Cheap Heat podcast and opened up on different matters. During their discussion, the true Women’s Grand Slam winner in the WWE Women’s Division spoke about the circumstances that led to the on-screen romance dynamic with Rey Mysterio’s son, in the first place.
“I ordered an Eddie Guerrero shirt, the ‘I’m your Papi’ one, and I was like, ‘I’m just gonna wear it and see what happens.’ I wore it and the internet exploded, went wild, they started calling me Papi and all of that,” Rhea Ripley revealed.
“Eventually, I was like, ‘Yo, we should make some more shirts’ but [WWE] were like, ‘Maybe we’ll change it to Mami,’ so that’s what like Mami came from.. but that was the start of this whole wild ride with Dominik with the Judgment Day sort of thing.”
Rhea Ripley has grown strong bonds with Dom and Judgment Day members
The host of the podcast went on to ask Rhea Ripley whether she and Dominik were friends before she wore that Eddie Guerrero Papi t-shirt. In reply, The Nightmare stated that they were mostly just work acquaintances who exchanged hi and hellos. It was after their storyline pairing and the formation of Judgment Day that made them close friends,
“I barely got to mingle with him. I didn’t really get to know him especially, because I was more just in the women’s division, where like now, I get to experience and make friends with [the] guys as well, because I’m actually working with them, but our friendship, just sort of bloomed.” (quotes courtesy Sescoops)
Even Rhea Ripley’s strong character was given a new direction via this romantic angle on TV which help her to get over with the WWE Universe. The heel-yet-funny antics between the two do entertain the viewers a lot on Raw episodes, each week. Time will tell how long WWE is willing to take this angle, forward.
