ToggleFor the better part of 2022, Edge has been involved in a long-term feud with Finn Balor and The Judgment Day faction on WWE Raw. Edge himself was the innovator of the heel faction but then he was kicked out of the group to commence the rivalry that is supposedly far from over.
Edge absent from WWE Raw for a long time
The last time the top billing from WWE Raw was seen on TV was during his I Quit Match against Finn Balor at the Extreme Rules 2022 PPV event. Edge came up short as he was forced to say I Quit fearing the well-being of his life partner. Despite this, Rhea Ripley viciously attacked Beth Phoenix with the Con-Chair-To and that was the final time that we’ve seen the couple on TV.
Elimination Chamber 2023: Unique Title Match Main Event Planned For WWE PLE?
Now, they’re coming back to seek vengeance against the heel faction of WWE Raw. According to reports from Fightful Select, Edge was originally penciled in for the first couple of premium live events of 2023. Reports already claimed that the original plan for Edge was to take on Finn Balor in a Hell In A Cell match at Royal Rumble 2023.
It was also noted that plans also called for Beth Phoenix to take part in Elimination Chamber PLE in February where Edge and Phoenix were set to team up against Balor and Ripley in a mixed tag team match. There have been speculations on whether these plans are still intact or not since Edge hasn’t returned on WWE despite speculations over the past couple of weeks.
Plans around Edge could have changed on WWE Raw
The source added in this regard that plans for Edge were concreted a long time ago even before his hiatus started in 2022 Fall,
“As Fightful Select had reported on a Q&A show upon his hiatus, the working plan was for Edge to take on Finn Balor upon his return to pick up their long-running feud, with WrestlingNews.co reporting that they’d be competing at Royal Ruble. Edge’s limited dates was a factor in the rivalry being spread out. We can also confirm WrestlingNews.co’s report that as of that point (ahead of Survivor Series) it was scheduled to be a Hell in a Cell match.”
Plans around Edge could have changed
It’s not confirmed whether the working plans have since changed as plans keep on changing in the WWE, all the time. Especially with this long absence of Edge and Beth from WWE Raw, the creative directions could be channeled in a different way.
It’s worth noting that Judgment Day’s Finn Balor and Damian Priest have earned a shot at the Undisputed Tag Team Title Match by winning a gauntlet match on this week’s WWE Raw. Nothing is confirmed on when the match would take place but Royal Rumble could be the PLE where the two could end up challenging The Usos for the tag titles.
