Bobby Lashley has become the new WWE Champion at Royal Rumble 2022 in a shocking fashion after Paul Heyman turned on his client Brock Lesnar. Proving his words true, the All-Mighty was able to convert the bygone reign of Lesnar, the shortest of his WWE career and he won’t likely be heading into Wrestlemania as the champion.
The finish of Lashley vs. Lesnar at Royal Rumble 2022 saw the referee go down right before Lesnar was about to put Lashley away. Lesnar countered a Hurt Lock attempt by Lashley and hit the F5. As the champion covered and went for the pin, the referee was in no condition to count that pin.
It was at this point when WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns hit the ring and planted Lesnar with a Spear. Roman was staring at Paul Heyman, who surprise the world by handing him the WWE Championship belt.

Roman then delivered a shot to Lesnar’s face with the belt and made his exit from the ring as the referee got his consciousness back. Roman and Heyman left the ring together, back as a team. Lashley crawled over and covered Lesnar to win the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble.
Reigns cost Lesnar his title at Royal Rumble 2022
As noted above, Lesnar began his sixth reign with the title back on January 1 at WWE Day 1 by winning a Fatal 5 Way over Lashley, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and former champion Big E. This has been the shortest title reign of his WWE career as he held the title for 27 days before dropping it to Lashley at Royal Rumble 2022.
In the meantime, this is Lashley’s second reign with the WWE Championship. It’s likely that he will now enter a second straight Wrestlemania with the most prestigious gold around his waist.
As for Lesnar, it’s obvious that he’ll go after Roman and Heyman after this happening at Royal Rumble 2022. Roman retained his title over Seth Rollins earlier the night via DQ. The referee had to rule a disqualification after Reigns didn’t want to let go of a submission hold even after the 5-count. After the match, Reigns also smashed Rollins with multiple chair shots to seek revenge from the latter’s turn-on, back in 2014.
