Fans were not impressed with the way how the Royal Rumble 2022 matches were put together by the WWE. The matches were criticized by the fans, who were majorly disappointed with the Men’s Rumble match. The star-studded lineup for the Women’s Rumble saved the day to some extent in addition to the miraculous return of Ronda Rousey who also ended up winning the match.
According to PWInsider, the Royal Rumble 2022 matches had a different feel in comparison to the previous years because of two big backstage absences and that’s of Triple H and Tyson Kidd.

Royal Rumble 2022 was reportedly a backstage mess
It was noted that Triple H used to make changes in Rumble matches in order to make sure that some wrestlers can stand out and the WWE Universe can actually get some moments between wrestlers in the Rumble. That was missing from Royal Rumble 2022 as some wrestlers noted that Triple H’s absence was felt in a big way. Shane McMahon also worked to make up his absence but ended up receiving major heat.
Wrestlers who participated in the Women’s Royal Rumble 2022 Match said that it was a “mess” and the morale was already low. This happened after a rehearsal for the match that was held on Friday night.
One talent also noted that WWE should’ve had more main roster or contracted talent than the returnees who were brought in for a one-off appearance. Another talent described that the match was a “complete chaos.”
It was also noted how at least one women’s talent passed on participating in Royal Rumble 2022 because they learned that Tyson Kidd was not going to be the producer. Apart from Finlay, the other producers assigned to this match were Shane Helms, Pat Buck, WWE Hall of Famer Michael Hayes, and WWE Hall of Famer Molly Holly, who was also an entrant of the match.
