Multiple surprise appearances took place at the Royal Rumble PPV, this year to make things interesting. Quite evidently, there were a plethora of women who returned to fill up the match card for the 30-women over-the-top-rope battle royal on January 28th.

In contrast, the reports suggested that there might not be any surprise returns in the men’s division matchup. But, there were a few names who did appear to surprise the fans.

Apart from the NXT division superstars like Adam Cole or Cien Almas, two more names from the past showed up. It was the Hurricane and Rey Mysterio who came back to work in the prestigious battle royal that gives away the main event spotlight to the winner.

Needless to say, the fans at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia came unglued once the music of the latter one hit the arena.

It was unarguably the best moment of this year’s Royal Rumble apart from the actual winning moment of Nakamura. The Mexican sensation has always been a fan-favourite in his WWE career.

So, the fans relived the high-flying actions delivered by the Mexican sensation. The question, however, was whether Mysterio signed a full-time deal with the WWE.

A recent report from PWinsider.com gave us updates that the return of the former world champion was finalized the week prior to the Royal Rumble PPV. For those who are willing to see more of Rey Mysterio in the WWE programming would be unhappy to hear that it was just a one-night-only deal for him to work for WWE. Check out the updates from SportsKeeda.com on this issue:

“His Rumble appearance was a one-off and there is no long-term WWE contract between Mysterio and the company. This may change after the reactions that Mysterio received from the audience, and potentially see the masked Luchador make a comeback to his old stomping grounds.”

Despite all the rumours of Mysterio working in the WWE, he is said to be heading to the Impact Wrestling promotion due to the flexible schedule provided.

However, with a big reaction from the crowd in Philly, it is likely that the master of 619 might change his mind and wishes to work for one more stint in the WWE.
