The rivalry between AJ Styles and Kevin Owens has been ongoing for quite a while, now. It started back after Wrestlemania 33 with Styles becoming the number one contender for the United States Champion. Since then, the title changed hands for multiple times creating more bad blood between these two.
This was the reason why a rubber match was arranged at the Summerslam PPV. To avoid partial referring, Shane McMahon was appointed as the special guest referee for this match. Apparently, it was the master plan of the creative heads to start yet another feud on Smackdown.
As we have seen in the past few weeks of Smackdown Live, a grudge has been building up between Shane and Kevin Owens which had grown bigger at the Summerslam PPV. It was expected that the outcome will see some sort of decision from Shane that will not make the prizefighter happy.
In between the match, Owens and Styles got into a verbal confrontation that created the distraction for the contender. Styles capitalized by connecting with the Pele Kick following with the Styles Clash to pick up the win.
Apparently, this segment will be the issue of the upcoming Shane vs. Owens rivalry. According to the reports of The Dirty Sheets Podcast, we might get to witness a singles matchup between this two at the very next Smackdown-exclusive PPV in October.
It will be the return of the Hell in a Cell PPV which suggests the match should be contested inside the demonic structure. Shane-O-Mac is certainly familiar with this cell structure and the WWE Creative will be happy to give him yet another match inside it which in turn will set up a huge main event, on that night.
With that being said, we can definitely expect Kevin Owens going right after the Smackdown commissioner, on tomorrow night. This would officially start the storyline perspective, directly to heat up the feud.
Considering these twos characteristics in the WWE, a natural heat is automatic. Shane is a lovable character whereas Kevin Owens is a born-heel person. Hence, if booked properly then this rivalry is certainly capable of stealing the show.
