Kevin Owens now doesn’t have an oppoenent after his rivalry with Roman Reigns got over at the bygone Royal Rumble PPV. He defended his title against Braun Strowmanthis past week’s Monday Might Raw in an impromptu match instructed by Mick Foley but the mountain among men is not his likely challenger, next.
Strowman has already picked up a fight with Roman Reigns and he is supposed to carry it forward in future. Owens, on the other hand, will get his next challenger in due course, against whom he will defend his title at the next Raw-exclusive PPV, Fastlane. The PPV is all set to take place on March 5 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Going by the recent reports, Goldberg will be his next opponent at the Fastlane PPV. According to Dave Meltzer, the match is scheduled as the main event of the last PPV before Wrestlemania. As stated by him in an episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, the WWE will soon make this match official.
The speculation regarding the same was there since Goldberg is already being confirmed for the Fastlane PPV. The WWE has not acknowledged it yet but the venue has already advertised him for the event and it stated that Goldberg will be the main event of the night. This means he will indeed be involved in a championship capacity.
As per the rumors, Brock Lesnar will make a surprise appearance on that night interfering the match. His presence will cost Goldberg the chance of winning the Universal championship. This will force Goldberg to answer Brock Lesnar’s challenge for one last bout at Wrestlemania.
On the other hand, the speculations also suggest that there are fewer chances that Owens will be heading towards Wrestlemania with the title around his waist. Hence, Goldberg might end up winning the title to face Lesnar in a championship match at Wrestlemania.
Goldberg’s re-signing with the WWE has benefitted the company to a huge extent over the last year. Hence, Vince McMahon would not hesitate to hand him one short title reign.
