WWE Rumor: John Cena Punished On WWE Raw For Skipping An Event? 1

The main event of this week’s WWE Raw featured a huge fatal-4-way matchup. The number one contender’s spot for the Universal Championship was on the line in this bout. Braun Strowman was the original contender to take on Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble. But he got himself out of the opportunity after destroying Vince McMahon’s limo. So Finn Balor, John Cena, Drew McIntyre, and Baron Corbin received the bonus opportunity.

Why Finn Balor received a title match at Royal Rumble?

The match was a solid back and forth going where Finn Balor came up as the winner. He pinned none other than John Cena via a Coup De Grace to pick up perhaps the biggest win of his career. Later the franchise player of the company put over the new contender with a promo in the middle of the ring. It set the tone high for the upcoming dream match that we thought we’d never see.

WWE fans could not be happier after WWE finally pulled the trigger for Finn Balor. This man deserved to be in the spotlight for a long time but could not receive the opportunity. Now he got that finally at the expense of John Cena. It was unimaginable even a year before that he could pick up a clean pinfall win over the 16-time world champion. Does it have any particular reason behind that?

Rumors suggested that WWE creative team was actually punishing John Cena for skipping Crown Jewel PPV. It was back in November that the face of the company withdrew his name from the bunch of superstars who were going to Saudi Arabia. This caused a lot of changes on the match card. But this logic does not stand here as Daniel Bryan did the same and now he is the WWE Champion on Smackdown.

Rather Sports Illustrated delivered fact stating that the plan was not to punish John Cena by any means. Rather they wanted to present Finn Balor as bigger star power. WWE got a minimal amount of time to build momentums for him who won the title more than two years ago. So who better to heat the gear up for him than John Cena? He turned out to be a big endorsement for the entire Balor Club. The promo from him was solid that helped Finn Balor to get over with the crowd. Hope he makes good use of this at the upcoming title match.
