Jinder Mahal has defended the WWE Championship successfully at the Hell in a Cell PPV. Shinsuke Nakamura was his opponent for two consecutive PPVs. On both the occasions, the reigning champion had pinned him clean to pick up the victory which is being considered as a tremendous achievement for the title-holder.
If the rumours are to be believed, then the India-origin champion will continue to grab the title until the end of this year. This will ensure that he can arrive to perform in WWE Live Indian event as the reigning WWE Champion. It will be first-time ever that he will be competing in front of his family members in his homeland.
Now, his feud with Nakamura is said to be over although it is not confirmed. But, on this past edition of Smackdown Live, The Artist was not involved in any fallouts from the title match which is a hint that he will not be involved in the championship picture, anymore. Rather, we can expect a new opponent for The Modern-Day Maharaja, going forward.
But, Jinder Mahal himself was not present during the main show, and no clues were given about his upcoming challenge. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter was able to pick his next opponent for the WWE Championship. According to him, AJ Styles will be the one. This might be the reason why he was stripped of his United States Championship at the Hell in a Cell PPV.
We expected him to get a long run with the US title. But, Baron Corbin grabbed the opportunity, out of nowhere and came victorious in the triple threat match. The following night, he pinned The Phenomenal One in a rematch, as well. It means he will out of the mid-card title picture and enter the main event scene. As a result of the planning, Styles already had a couple of segments with Jinder on Smackdown.

“I think it’s AJ [Styles]. After that I guess, and Corbin and Dillinger will feud over the US Title, or maybe Corbin will feud with Nakamura for the US Title.”
John Cena was previously expected to return on Smackdown Live to challenge Jinder for the title. However, he is not expected to be back until Christmas which is why AJ Styles is the rightmost opponent for the champion, at this time.
