WWE Rumor: Reason Why Chris Jericho Have Won The US Title Back At Payback 1

Prior to the Payback PPV, reports surfaced stating that no title change will take place at the night. By the looks of the match card, the prediction was understandable. Most of the matches contained some fallout of the Wrestlemania feuds and hence it was expected that we would simply witness the wrap-ups.

The prediction reports also stated that Payback would turn out to be a dud event with fewer surprises have in store. But, in reality, it turned out to be a packed night with bigger twists in store. In combined we have seen a couple of shocking title changes and a major heel turn to make it yet another successful event in WWE calendar.

The biggest of all the surprises was Chris Jericho winning the United States title back from Kevin Owens. It was least expected since he is scheduled to go on a musical tour with his band Fozzy for the entire summer season. They will start performing from this month onwards which will continue until the end of June.

So, it came as a huge shocker when Jericho pulled off the upset by submitting Owens with the Walls of Jericho locked in. Apparently, this was done to make sure that Jericho heads to Smackdown Live. He has been in matches with almost every major Raw superstars. So, going on Smackdown might open up new opportunities for him.

Also, this win does not mean that he will continue with his WWE run for long. This title run will not long last and Owens will soon ask for the rematch on the blue brand. The new ‘Face of America’ will soon regain the title from Y2J to send him into the scheduled hiatus.

WWE is still going with the AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens United States championship feud. A match between these two was said to be the main event of the upcoming Backlash PPV. But, with Jericho on the picture, this might turn out to be a triple threat match.

Upon conclusion of Payback, Jericho received a warm farewell from the Raw General Manager, Kurt Angle. He will not be present on this week’s Raw. Further updates on Jericho will be available once Smackdown Live gets on the air, this Tuesday.
