After Chris Jericho interfered in the match up between Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens at Roadblock, a rematch at the Royal Rumble PPV was announced. Ever since it has happened, Roman Reigns has been the clear favorite to win this bout. This time, Jericho who has always been the difference-maker, will be locked inside a shark cage.
Plus, Reigns has also lost the US championship fuelling up the rumors of him winning the prime title on Raw. However, the recent report from cagesideseats.com suggests something very different to the previous one.
It stated that Roman Reigns is ‘penciled in’ to win the Universal Championship at some point. But, it ‘may not happen’ at the 30th annual Royal Rumble PPV. KO will retain the title and keep the championship on his shoulder until the Wrestlemania season to set up a title match between the best friends at the grandest stage of them all.
Vince McMahon might have changed the planning around the Big Dog since a major fan backlash might happen at Rumble if Reigns picks up the title. The Wrestlemania season will begin at the event and the crowd is certain that the boss is arranging push for his poster boy. But Vince has in mind that this is the PPV which has screwed Reigns every single year.
In 2014, the crowd backed Reigns to win the Rumble match but Vince chose Batista which turned out to be an utter failure. The next year, he decided to make it up by letting Reigns win but the Pittsburgh crowd started the tradition of booing Reigns from that night. Last year, Triple H returned to screw Reigns by eliminating him from the match to set up the main event of Wrestlemani,a which turned out to another disastrous decision.
This is the reason why the WWE might not be willing to go in the predictable direction with Reigns. They might arrange for him a feud with the Undertaker to turn the crowd into nuts.
