The ongoing storyline around the women present on the Smackdown Live roster changed to a certain extent over the past couple of weeks. The championship held by Naomi might not be the main, as the spotlight was shifted to the “Welcoming Committee”.
It was a heel faction formed by Natalya, Carmella, and Tamina with the first one being the leader. This was done with Charlotte coming to the blue brand and getting a shot at the title as early as possible. On the other hand, these three never had the singles opportunity for the title despite being on the show from last year’s Draft.
With that being said, the six women present on the show has split into two halves with three being faces and the rest being the heels. Now that the heels being totally dominant over their rivals, it is likely that WWE is planning something around them.
As reported by Cagesideseats.com, WWE creative has arranged a multi-woman tag team match that will take place at the upcoming PPV, Backlash. This will be a six woman tag team action with Becky Lynch, Charlotte, Naomi taking on the Welcoming committee.
Tonight’s episode will be the second last one before the Backlash PPV looms around. So, an official announcement around this one should be given. The first PPV from Smackdown after Wrestlemania will take place on May 21st at the All-State Arena in Chicago, Illinois.
This certainly indicates the fact that the reigning champion Naomi might breach the rule of not defending the title for a span of 30 days in the near future. Previously, she was stripped of the title prior to Wrestlemania for the same reason. So, WWE’s rulebook will rather look funnier if this happens, again.
Also, taking the attention away to a random tag team contest rather than arranging singles contest would certainly harm the momentums that the women’s on Smackdown had earned over the past few months. The good thing about the brand was that they were able to indulge all the superstars into storylines with individual matches.
Back in the Elimination Chamber PPV, there were three singles women’s matches which were an all-time record. Now that WWE is rooting for the old concept of tag matches, things might get stale. The problem should be solved at the earliest.
