WWE Rumour: AJ Styles’ Next Opponent for the United States Championship 1

AJ Styles and Kevin Owens have been battling over the United States Championship for the better part of the summer. It started back when Wrestlemania season just concluded.

KO was sent to the Smackdown brand as a part of the superstar shake up to start a fresh feud with Styles which was considered to be a dream match for many.

Before coming to WWE, these two indie circuit veterans had some classic matches in several other promotions. But, they did not have any matches on the main roster. Initially, the hype was huge around this feud. But, some events and some unnecessary title changes might have made things pale from a fan’s perspective.

It is the reason why Shane McMahon was inserted into the championship match that took place between them. He acted as the special guest referee to call down the match that ended in the midst of controversy, according to Owens.

So, he showed up once again on this past week’s Smackdown Live accepting AJ Styles’ US Open Challenge. It led to one final match between Styles and Owens with the stipulation that if Owens loses he will not have any rematch in the future. Quite expectedly, he lost the feud which will let The Phenomenal One move forward to a newer opponent.

Now, it was interesting to see that Baron Corbin served as the special guest referee chose by Owens on Smackdown. Apparently, this was a smart trick from the creative team to arrange an opponent for Styles. According to the reports from stillrealtous.com, Baron Corbin is going to be the next challenger for the United States title.

As we have seen in between the match, Styles and Corbin had a disagreement where Corbin pushed AJ allowing Owens to go for a quick roll-up. At one point, Corbin also counted fast so that Styles lose the title. These alterations are going to be the key factors for building up this upcoming feud that might start from next week’s Smackdown.

As for Owens, he will be building up a rivalry against none other than the Smackdown commissioner which might cause Hell in a Cell match in October when the PPV under the same gimmick returns.
