Last week’s Smackdown Live ended on a volatile note. We were in the middle of an exciting match during the main event segment. Charlotte Flair challenged Naomi for the Smackdown women’s championship on the show. They took each other to the limit and when it was looking that Naomi might capitalise by hitting the rear-view, the newly formed faction by Natalya, Carmella and Tamina attacked them both.
These three were furious over the fact that Charlotte received a singles championship opportunity that they never got. So, they formed the team named “The Welcoming Committee” to steal the spotlight.
The interesting point about the attack was that they pounced on both Naomi and Charlotte. In general, the heel team targets the babyface one. In this case, it was supposed to be Naomi. But, instead, The Queen suffered the most of their wrath.
This led to the speculation that the Genetically Superior Athlete will take a babyface turn going in contrast to her bonafide heel character. At this time, there is an inappropriate ratio of heels and faces on the blue brand. If this happens then there will be three members each on both the side.
Naomi, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte will be the babyfaces in the division, whereas, the three members of the Welcoming Committee will act like the heels.
Furthermore, the opponents from last week were made to team up, this week. As per the listings for this week’s Smackdown Live, Charlotte and Naomi will team up to take on the team of Carmella and Natalya. It certainly indicates that a character change is reserved for the newest member of the Smackdown Live roster. Check out the preview posted regarding this match on WWE.com:
“Opponents a week ago, Charlotte and Naomi are joining forces this week to take on Natalya and Carmella in tag team action. Will the “welcoming committee” continue their path of destruction, or will the SmackDown Women’s Champion and The Queen show why they’re worthy of the top spots?”
The interesting part of this character shift leaves us with the question of what will happen to the championship picture. Chances are less that WWE will let two babyfaces i.e. Charlotte and Naomi will lock horns at the upcoming PPV, Backlash for the title.
Hopefully, we will receive an answer to it on Tuesday’s episode.
