WWE has announced a path-breaking idea of hosting the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match on January 28th. So, on that night when the first dual-brand PPV event of 2018 gets underway, we will see not one but two Rumble matches.
Both the winners of respective matches will get a shot to the titles from their concerned roster at the biggest stage of them all, Wrestlemania.
Now, as per the given updates from the WWE, last week, the rules for both the Royal Rumble matches will be the same. It wiped out the possibilities of 15 or 20 women competing in their Rumble match. WWE intends to demolish all the barriers present between the male and female division and hence confirmed that 30 female superstars would appear in this contest.
Now, this might have ruined the planning for championship matches at Royal Rumble. The officials will need more superstars to fill in the match card. Currently, the available names on the female roster are 22 in a combined way from both Raw and Smackdown. So, they will need more names from NXT and the past Divas roster, as well.
So, with all the competitors getting involved in the prestigious battle royal, we can certainly expect the champions will have to sit the evening out. It is hard to believe the dominant champions present on Raw and Smackdown, i.e. Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair will not get an opportunity to defend the title on this historic night.
Cagesideseats.com gave some updates stating it’s hard for the creative team to fill in the match. So, they are left with no choices but to give the night off to the title-holders,
“The Observer notes the Raw and SmackDown women’s champions may not be wrestling at Royal Rumble due to every woman needing to be in the Rumble match. The obvious speculation is they will sit ringside for the match.”
Previously, it was supposed that Alexa Bliss might face Asuka, whereas, Charlotte Flair might get Ruby Riott as her title opponent. Their opponents do have a pinfall win over the champion. However, all of them have already been confirmed to be part of the Royal Rumble, and thus these ideas might be nixed out.
