WWE Rumour: The Rock or Stone Cold to be Special Guest Referee at Survivor Series 1

The brand vs brand themed PPV event named Survivor Series is scheduled to take place on November 19th at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. It is the last “big-four” PPV in this year of 2017. Hence, WWE is making no stones unturned to make this one a blockbuster affair. Already four champions vs champion match including two traditional tag team elimination matches have been confirmed.

Alongside this, more special appearances are expected for this event. As reported earlier WWE is considering to arrange a special guest referee for the main event of the night between Brock Lesnar and Jinder Mahal. John Cena was previously supposed to officiate things in this cross-brand match featuring the Universal Champion and the WWE Champion.

However, things might get changed a big-time if the recent reports from Wrestling Observer Newsletter are to be believed. As per the statements from Dave Meltzer, either Stone Cold Steve Austin or The Rock is going to be the referee for this mega-bout.

Apparently, Vince McMahon is contacting both these former franchise players of the WWE to make a return for the one-off night. Both of them are not involved in WWE programming for a long time now, and the scenario totally depends on the legends whether they intend to come back or not.

Additional reasons for considering The Rock in this role is elaborated by stillrealtous.com which suggested the following,

“One of the other big issues in regards to The Rock is whether or not his schedule would allow him to do it, and how much it would cost to get him involved. The Rock and Brock Lesnar do have a history together as they faced off at SummerSlam in 2002. Rock vs Lesnar was originally in the plans for WrestleMania 30, but Rock has stayed away from the ring.”

Stone Cold, on the other hand, made an appearance in the WWE at Wrestlemania 32. On that night, he gave a treat to the WWE fans by giving stunners to the members of the then faction known as League of Nations. It was considered to be a one-off outing for him who always wanted to get sidelined from WWE programming, willingly.

It is certain that the WWE fans would love to see one on these legends to be back in the special referee capacity. However, without much build up ongoing, it might be unlikely that we can see any one of them making a future appearance at Survivor Series.
