On the Road to Wrestlemania 39, WWE Smackdown presented yet another stacked episode this past Friday night from USA’s capital. The Capital One Arena in Washington, DC hosted the show and it was a packed house in the presence of the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, the headliner. In the process, the show ended up breaking some records.
Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reports that the March 3 episode of WWE Smackdown had the highest-grossing gate for any Raw/SmackDown TV event in the history of Washington, DC. The below-mentioned info only adds to the long list of accomplishments that WWE is pulling off in recent times with Triple H gaining control of the creative direction of the company,
“Internal live events reports say tonight’s show was the highest-grossing SmackDown/Raw event in DC in WWE history.”
WWE Raw: AJ Styles Could Be Available Around Wrestlemania 39
According to more updates from WrestleTix, the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC was packed with over 12,000 fans in attendance. This is pretty incredible since tonight’s AEW Revolution 2023 PPV, the first All Elite Wrestling pay-per-view event of the year has sold 8,100 tickets in comparison. While WWE Smackdown wasn’t a full sellout, only 236 were left.
WWE Raw/WWE Smackdown shattering records under Triple H
As noted above, WWE’s business in recent times sees an increase, especially on the road to WrestleMania 39. They have been breaking attendance and gate records with almost each WWE RAW and WWE SmackDown episode, as of late. This trend has picked up after Triple H took over main roster creative last July following Vince McMahon’s step-down from the role.
WWE Smackdown featured a first-time face-off segment
Coming back to the latest episode of WWE Smackdown, the headliner segment show featured Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes coming face-to-face for the first-ever-time before their main-event showdown at WrestleMania 39. The two will battle for the biggest prize in sports entertainment, that’s the Undisputed WWE Universal Title Match in the marquee match.
There have been a few dark matches for the fans in attendance of WWE Smackdown. The first such match featured Charlotte Flair in action where the SmackDown Women’s Champion defended her title against Sonya Deville. In another massive dark match, Cody Rhodes defeated Finn Balor in a singles match to retain his undefeated streak since his return at Wrestlemania 38, last year.
