Damage CTRL will have an opportunity to end next week’s WWE SmackDown as three-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Since Bayley and Dakota Kai of the faction had secured a win over the champions Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez on the May 1 episode of Raw this past Monday, the two teams will now be colliding over the tag titles.

It was announced last night that two-thirds of members of Damage CTRL will take on the champions on the May 12 edition of WWE SmackDown. Team Damage CTRL previously held the tag titles twice in their career although Bayley wasn’t in the mix as she was busy dealing with the Raw women’s champion Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch in singles competition.

Hence, Kai held the WWE Women’s Tag Titles on two occasions, both times with IYO SKY being her tag team partner. The two then lost their titles to Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Lita on the February 27 edition of Raw. Moving on Damage CTRL also suffered a loss in a six-woman tag team match to Lynch, Lita, and fellow Hall of Famer Trish Stratus at WrestleMania 39.
Kai and SKY lost once more on Raw after WrestleMania to Morgan and Rodriguez with a shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Titles on the line. Three weeks after that loss on Raw, the faction was drafted to WWE Smackdown. Prior to the brand split rules get tougher from next week onward, IYO SKY will also challenge Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Title at Backlash PLE, tonight.
In another announcement for next week’s WWE Smackdown, NXT import Cameron Grimes will be seen in action for the first time on Friday nights. WWE Official Adam Pearce set up his debut match for the former NXT North American Champion against free agent Baron Corbin. Also, on the May 12 episode of SmackDown, Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns will return for the first time since Raw after Wrestlemania 39.
