Being a protected character on WWE television, Charlotte Flair has been a polarizing figure in the pro-wrestling circuit. While she does have her own worldwide fanbase, there’s a part of the WWE Universe that doesn’t like the fact that she’s always clad with gold. The same tradition continued during her latest return on Smackdown on the December 30 episode.
It was the final TV taping for the WWE of 2022 where Charlotte Flair returned to WWE programming for the first time since WrestleMania Backlash in last May. She pinned Ronda Rousey to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship to become a 14-time Women’s World Champion.
WWE Wrestlemania 39: Charlotte Flair’s Title Win Causes Change In Title Match Plans
Following the title change, there have been some usual chatters on social media on how WWE again opted for The Queen to hand over the belt as soon as she was back on the WWE programming. However, the number of positive reactions was even more given the fact that Ronda Rousey’s title reign had become stale and people wanted it to end as soon as possible.
Charlotte Flair was surprised with crowd reactions
This is the reason Charlotte Flair’s latest title win is getting praised and hopefully, the trend would continue for the time being. Fans’ reaction was discussed during an appearance on WWE’s The Bump on YouTube where the history-maker admitted that after being a heel on WWE TV for so long, she was surprised with the amount of love she was showered with during the return.
The second-generation athlete also noted that this was a full-circle moment of her career given that it all began in Florida at the WWE PC where she also won the 14th women’s title of her career,
“Being in the audience, which I’ve never done before, like I’ve been in the audience, but I’m usually kicking someone’s butt, but here I was holding the title in Tampa where my career started, full circle and being back after eight months,” she said. “It really made me emotional, and being back and I think after being gone for eight months, the things that I worried about before I don’t worry about as much.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)
Charlotte Flair also revealed during the conversation that this title win was one of those rare occasions where she didn’t have to play the role of an arrogant TV character. She was simply herself during that moment and thus could soak at the moment to a deep extent.
