At the beginning of this year, the SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair was involved in a feud with Sonya Deville. The challenger was hell-bent on getting the spotlight by going up against The Opportunity, herself. Following Flair’s return to SmackDown and subsequent title win, Deville ensured that she’d be the first one in line to have a shot at the championship gold.
Over the month of January, the two were seen having exchanges in physical as well as verbal capacity. At that point, Deville also interrupted Charlotte Flair’s interview with the Out of Character podcast, leading to setting up a title match opportunity to settle their differences on the February 3 edition of the blue brand where no title change took place.
John Cena’s Time Will Be Limited During His 2023 WWE Return
Speaking on the Notsam Wrestling podcast, Deville admitted that she’s had her “eye on the title for a long time now,” but she also wanted to challenge someone she “found to be admirable in some senses.” On that note, Charlotte Flair was addressed as the benchmark performer. This came despite the fact that she had so much beef with The Queen.
Sonya Deville has a lot of respect for Charlotte Flair despite sharing a beef
The hatred for the 14-Time Champion didn’t take away the respect that The Pride Fighter has for her. Deville did claim to have the recipe “to throw her off her toes,” but ultimately, she failed to back up her words. Deville continued by saying that she believes “Charlotte is one of the best to ever do it, 100%,” and “the pinnacle, in my opinion, of the women’s division right now.” This was the reason in the first place why Deville targeted her in the first place.
According to the record books, there are more than solid reasons that Charlotte Flair should be considered as the greatest of all time in the Women’s division. At present, she sits tied for second place with Randy Orton for the most world title reigns in the WWE. Ahead of them, there are only two WWE Legends in the form of The “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, and John Cena as they possess 16 world championships, each.
WWE Smackdown: Ronda Rousey Was Bored Of Carrying Women’s Championship
Charlotte Flair made a triumphant return to WWE during the final SmackDown of 2022 where she beat Ronda Rousey in an impromptu match within just a few seconds to seek redemption from the same woman who took the title off her in an ‘I Quit’ at WrestleMania Backlash to go into a hiatus. During the time off, she got married to AEW star Andrade El Idolo and also underwent dental surgery to make a strong comeback.
