WWE Smackdown will return to the home of professional wrestling next week at the Madison Square Garden Arena in New York City. It will also begin the builds for the annual Summerslam event. It appears that WWE Hall of Famer Edge will be a part of the grand show and he’s returning in time to get involved in a storyline.
A few selected segments have been advertised for next week’s WWE SmackDown from the Madison Square Garden arena. As noted in the announcement, Edge will be making his return to TV to appear on The Grayson Waller Effect hosted by the latest NXT recruit Grayson Waller. No update is there on whether WWE plans on doing a storyline for Summerslam featuring these two names.

In late April, Edge was drafted to the WWE SmackDown brand as part of the 2023 WWE Draft. His first appearance on the show was a loss to AJ Styles in the World Heavyweight Championship tournament in a Triple Threat match also featuring Rey Mysterio.
WWE Smackdown: Edge possibly returning for his final stint
Going by the ongoing speculations, the WWE Hall of Famer’s career is gradually winding down given he will be 50, later this year. However, he just wasn’t ready to set something in stone about his in-ring retirement. Edge also discussed wanting to have his last match in Canada. As a follow-up, he is currently being advertised to be the headliner for the August 18 episode of WWE SmackDown in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Before his inclusion in the WWE Smackdown brand, Edge was involved in a long-term feud with Judgment Day on Raw. At the Wrestlemania 39 PLE in April, Edge defeated “The Demon” Finn Balor inside the Hell in a Cell structure. Thereafter, he was imported to the blue brand to possibly start his final stint of an in-ring career.
Also announced for next week’s WWE Smackdown will be a United States Championship match where the champion Austin Theory will put his title on the line against Sheamus in a rematch. Sheamus previously challenged Theory for the title on the May 26 episode but Theory managed to retain it after a distraction from Pretty Deadly. The MSG episode of WWE Smackdown will also see AJ Styles vs. Karrion Kross in a rematch.
