As announced last week, the August 18, 2023, episode of WWE Smackdown will take place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. That show will see the Superstars of the blue brand appearing to help build next month’s Payback Premium Live Event and Edge could be a part of the buildups as he’s officially been added to the card to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his career.
To promote the upcoming appearance, Edge also made a surprise appearance on this week’s WWE Smackdown which took place at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He said he wanted to have a match in Toronto, next week on the occasion of his 25th anniversary. He also wanted to face someone he has never faced, and that man is Sheamus.
The Rated-R Superstar informed the WWE Smackdown audience that Sheamus is the man responsible for him to enter the world of wrestling, again. Edge said Sheamus is the guy that awakened a desire in him to wrestle again after a triple fusion neck surgery. Since then, Sheamus had become a part of his extended family, as they trained together in the ring while preparing for his comeback at Royal Rumble 2020. Sheamus himself had a career-threatening neck injury in the past.

WWE Smackdown: Edge vs. Sheamus set for August 18 episode
The Brawling Brutes trio – Sheamus, Butch, and Ridge Holland then came out on WWE Smackdown. Sheamus said he was at a crossroads in 2004 while attending a WWE show. Everybody ignored him on that night except for Edge who was yet to reach his main event potential in his career.
Sheamus then accepted Edge’s challenge for a match on WWE Smackdown set for next week and also said that he hopes Edge didn’t make a mistake by challenging him in a match. The two ended the segment on a cordial note.
That being said, the stage is all set for a fresh matchup on next week’s WWE Smackdown between two of the greatest champions in the history of the company. Despite both these superstars sharing the same locker room before Edge’s initial retirement, the pair never had the opportunity to square off inside the squared circle in the past. As a result, the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada will indeed get to be a part of history.
