WWE Smackdown was hosted last night by the Canadian Tier center in Ottawa, Canada. Since this one was the first Smackdown post Survivor Series, we were bound to see some major dragged storylines from the PPV. Things on the blue brand have already been hyped up with TLC PPV just around the corner on December 4th.
Shane McMahon Kicked Things Off
Smackdown opened with Shane McMahon making his way to the ring. He addressed their victory at the men’s elimination match against team Raw. However, he was upset with Dean Ambrose, who allied with his former Shield brethren to turn on his own team member, AJ Styles. However, Shane seemed to be impressed with James Ellsworth. So, he was willing to give the mascot a permanent Smackdown contract. The confrontation set up a ladders match between Styles and Ellsworth. If the latter wins then he would earn a contract. Furthermore, Dean Ambrose was escorted out of the arena as punishment.
The Miz vs. Kalisto (Intercontinental Title Match)
Daniel Bryan made an impromptu match-up between the Miz and Kalisto for the IC title. The reigning champion did not have any problem whatsoever to defend since Baron Corbin showed up to distract Kalisto. Miz capitalized with the skull crushing finale to earn a win. Dolph Ziggler showed up and super-kicked Miz on the ramp afterwards.
No. 1 Contender Tag Team Turmoil
This was a six-way tag team turmoil to determine the number one contender for the Tag Team championship. After a back and forth contest, it came down to the Usos vs. the American Alpha. As the team was celebrating, the Wyatt family interrupted. They warned team Alpha by saying that next week they’ll face Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton. The winner will be declared as the true number one contender.
Becky Lynch vs. Natalya
This was a quick non-title match between the two. Becky hit the Bex-plex and countered the Sharpshooter into the Dis-arm-her to make Natalya tap out. After the match, Alexa Bliss ran into the ring and attacked Becky from behind. Both will collide for the title at the TLC PPV.
Kane vs. Baron Corbin
Baron Corbin ate big boot early and ran around the ring to avoid the next move. Kalisto came down to the ring and hit him causing a DQ win. Kalisto was shoved off by Corbin but got a chokeslam from Kane. Kalisto further attacked Corbin with a chair.
AJ Styles vs. James Ellsworth
The main event of Smackdown was contested for James Ellsworth’s contract on the show. As expected, Dean Ambrose interfered and helped Ellsworth. Styles dropped him off with the Phenomenal Forearm. Styles started to climb up the ladder but Ellsworth sent him out of the ring off the ladder. He further connected with the No Chin Music to put him down. Ellsworth grabbed the contract to officially become a Smackdown member.
