WWE Smackdown full results: April 21, 2016

The Miz and Maryse kicked off this week’s edition of WWE Smackdown from London, England’s O2 arena. They hosted a special edition of the Miz TV with the guest, the number one contender for the WWE world heavyweight championship, AJ Styles. After highlighting the previous alliance of Styles along with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson Miz wanted to fire up the controversy that there is something cooking among these gentlemen. The plot was obviously set by the attack that happened on Raw by the former Bullet club members on Roman Reigns. Styles denied the controversy and added that he does not need the help of Gallows and Anderson to win the championship. The IT couple pushed him further which caused Styles shoving the Miz into the apron and set up a match for later that night. (WWE Smackdown results are from wwe.com)

Ryback def. Kalisto

Ryback had a rematch from Wrestlemania and thereby earned a future US title shot by bulldozing his way into a win. The Big Guy was on a mission to prove that his adversary’s win at Wrestlemania was nothing but a fluke. In spite of The Lucha Dragon’s high-flying athletics, Ryback was able to counter Kalisto’s Salida del Sol attempt and score an earth-shattering victory with Shell Shocked.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin (no contest)

The match was never started as the Lone Wolf seemed hungry, so much so that when the show-off was emerging to have a rematch against the Lone Wolf, he ran down the ramp and unleashed a vicious surprise assault on The Showoff from behind. Corbin once again dropped Ziggler with the End of Days on the unforgiving ringside floor. When asked about his actions Corbin only answered, “Because, I can.”

AJ Styles def. The Miz

Following an earlier confrontation with Intercontinental Champion Miz on “Miz TV,” AJ Styles stepped into the ring to have a battle with the Phenomenal One. The match was taken to the height with both the competitors taking themselves to the limit. The Miz decided to take a walk after that but got stopped by Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson which once fuelled the link between them and Styles. The two-man roadblock opened the door for the No. 1 contender to the World Title to hit his adversary with a pair of flying forearms and walking out with the victory.

Natalya & Paige def. Naomi & Tamina

The Queen of Harts is fired up with the news that his uncle Bret Hart will appear in her corner to even things for her. Natalya teamed with Paige on WWE SmackDown against Naomi & Tamina. The encounter’s final moments saw Tamina breaking the pin attempt from Natalya but got trapped into the Sharpshooter whereas her partner locked into the PTO with both tapping out.

R-Truth def. Fandango

Last week on WWE SmackDown, instead of teaming with R-Truth, Goldust decided to team up with Fandango in the WWE Tag team tournament match whereas this week’s WWE Smackdown saw R-Truth going one-on-one with Goldust serving as the special guest referee. Not surprisingly, the three started to dance in the middle of the match which helped Truth the victor by planting Fandango’s head into the canvas.

The Vaudevillains confront Enzo & Big Cass

As Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady were addressing the WWE Universe, The Vaudevillains interrupted on the top of the ramp. Both teams put their claim by promising to emerge victorious on the final of the WWE tag team tournament at WWE Payback.

Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho def. Dean Ambrose & Sami Zayn

In an epic prelude to two incredible singles, showdowns at WWE Payback, Dean Ambrose, and Sami Zayn combined forces against Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens in WWE SmackDown’s tag team main event. Zayn looked to help his partner by shoving off Jericho temporarily with a Helluva Kick, which allowed Ambrose to deliver an aerial assault to KO. But, Jericho recovered quickly to push the Lunatic Fringe off the rope and KO was quick to capitalize on the damage, picked up the huge three-count to build huge momentum for the May 1st pay-per-view.
