ToggleThere have been some major discussions within the WWE Universe about the mishandling of Lacey Evans throughout 2022. Despite shifting her character as well as brands time and time again, no such elevation in her career was noticed for her. Now, it appears that she is set for another re-debut with another brand-new character in the coming weeks.
WWE focusing on Lacey Evans’ mariner gimmick
A vignette aired on the latest episode of WWE Smackdown showing Lacey Evans undergoing a hectic training session with her fellow United States Marine Corps. A voice in the background suggested that the WWE Superstar got “lost in the crowd with the whiners and the weak” but now she’s getting ready to revert back to her roots.

The vignette ended with several Marines urging Lacey Evans to get back on her feet after she fell on the floor during a training session. Something around her is going to change was suggested as the pre-taped promo came to an end. Nothing was thereby noted by the WWE regarding her next TV appearance or in-ring return, as of this writing.
Lacey Evans teased a character change three weeks ago
Prior to this, Lacey Evans had teased a character change following the November 11 episode Smackdown, where she lost a six-pack challenge to determine the number-one contender to Ronda Rousey’s SmackDown Women’s Championship. Shotzi won that match to confirm a title match at Survivor Series WarGames.
Following her loss, the former Sassy Southern Belle told the interviewer Cathy Kelley in a backstage interview that she was “done trying to please everybody”. She also noted not to be “comfortable” anymore in the “glitz, glamour and the lifestyle” that comes with being a WWE Superstar. Since that night, we haven’t spotted her on live TV.
Following Wrestlemania 38, Lacey Evans returned to WWE programming after a stretched maternity leave. Originally supposed to be a babyface persona, she debuted a new heel persona that saw her belittling fans for not respecting her experiences as a United States Marine or for her childhood tragedies.
Just a few weeks later, she would once again be reverted to a babyface character during a Money in the Bank ladder match qualifier against Xia Li on the June 10 episode of SmackDown. Just a couple of weeks later, Lacey Evans turned heel again by attacking her tag team partner Aliyah. Not to mention, she also switched brands on three occasions during this stint.
