Smackdown was Hollywood-bound, last night. We are less than two weeks away from the Fastlane PPV, and the show was hyped up with the return of the franchise player to the blue brand.
Plus, two huge matches were confirmed for the show, as well. Here are the results from the show that took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
Smackdown kicked off with John Cena returning to the show after six months. He pledged to get added to the WWE Championship match at Fastlane. However, as per Daniel Bryan, you have to earn the shot. Hence, a match was announced against AJ Styles for him. If he wins this, he gets a shot to the WWE title at Fastlane.
The opening contest of Smackdown featured Baron Corbin and Sami Zayn. Kevin Owens was present on the commentary table but was unable to give the upper-hand to his buddy. Corbin hit an End of Days to pick up the win. After the match, Dolph Ziggler walked into the ring and hit a Zig-zag on Corbin to plant him down.
Ruby Riott had a singles competition against Naomi. The Riott Squad and Charlotte-Becky Lynch were present at the ringside. Despite valiant efforts from Naomi, she missed a bulldog which allowed Riott to connect with the Riott kick for the win. Charlotte and Becky charged the Riott Squad after the match which forced them to leave the ring.
Bobby Roode and Randy Orton had a backstage confrontation where the champion talked about Orton having problems with him. The Viper mentioned he never won the US title in his 16-year span of WWE career. So, he will do that at the Fastlane PPV. Dolph Ziggler was also seen in a similar promo about how he will win the WWE title at Fastlane.
The New Day had a confrontation against the Usos to hype-up their tag team title match at the Fastlane PPV. Following this segment, we received a singles match between Nakamura and Aiden English. The Royal Rumble winner had a strong outing despite Rusev’s presence by the ring. A Kinshasa put away English for good handing over the win to Nakamura.
In the main event of Smackdown, John Cena had an amazing match against AJ Styles. He escaped the Calf Crusher lock from the WWE Champion to hit an AA to pick up the win. After the match, Owens, Ziggler, Zayn, and Corbin hit the ring to ensure utter chaos. It was John Cena who stood tall to end the show by planting Ziggler with another AA.
