WWE Smackdown Live Full Results: January 8, 2019

WWE hyped up last night’s edition of Smackdown Live announcing a triple threat. This crowned a new number one contender for the women’s championship. The tag team titles were on the line between The Bar and The Usos. Also, a confrontation between AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan was announced on the show that took place at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Daniel Bryan opened the night at the backstage where he was coming into the arena. He continued disrespecting the fans by talking trash. He snatched a hotdog from a fan and threw it on his face! Back into the ring, he cut a promo with all the fickle fans and blasted them by talking trash until R-Truth attacked him from behind.

A brawl broke out at ringside that set up a match between them. Truth started the match with full aggression landing a big kick. Bryan kicked out and showered some of his own kicks to Truth’s sternum. R-Truth was able to hit Bryan with a jawbreaker but the WWE Champion connected with a Running Knee to pick up a quick win. AJ Styles tried to attack Bryan from behind but he ran away with the help from officials.

A tag team match followed on Smackdown where Rey Mysterio and Mustafa Ali faced off against Samoa Joe and Andrade Cien Almas. Joe and Mysterio started the match with latter one coming up with high flying offenses. He tagged in Ali after which Joe took control. Ali finally tagged back Mysterio who hit a 450 splash on Joe. Joe tagged back Almas who avoided a 619 and hit a Hammerlock DDT to get the win.

Rusev appeared on Smackdown Live and called Shinsuke Nakamura for hurting his wife. Nakamura did not come out as he was on the TV truck. He showed video footage to point out that it was Rusev’s fault. But the US Champ was still angry and went to find Nakamura at backstage. The heel attacked him from the back and landed a Kinshasa.

The tag team championship match was next on Smackdown Live where The Bar defended against The Usos. It was a full back and forth action where The Usos were mostly in control. Jimmy hit a Samoan Drop in Cesaro for a near fall. Jey had Sheamus down with a clothesline and superkick but he kicked out. Mandy Rose interfered the match distracting Jimmy Uso. It allowed The Bar to retain who also accepted a challenge from The Miz-Shane McMahon at Royal Rumble.

The triple threat match between Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Carmella was the main event of Smackdown. Charlotte hit some chops on Carmella who slapped the Queen only to get locked into the Figure-four. Becky Lynch landed a leg-drop and locked the dis-arm-her on Charlotte. Carmella sent them out of the ring where Charlotte delivered a huge spear on Lynch. Lynch came back into the ring to lock in her pendant submission on Carmella to get the win.
