Tensions are running high on Smackdown Live with Daniel Bryan taking controversial decisions, each week. We expected a massive fallout on the show from last week’s show where the handicapped WWE Championship match at Royal Rumble got announced. Check out what happened on the show hosted at the BJCC Convention Complex in Birmingham, Alabama.
The show kicked off with an interview segment where Renee Young threw some questions to the WWE Champion, AJ Styles. While declaring his strategy for the Royal Rumble championship match, AJ Styles admitted the handicapped match is not fair. He was quickly interrupted by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn who claimed to become first ever co-champions.
Shane McMahon arrived on the scene stating the decision made by Daniel Bryan was not fair. The match remains intact at the PPV though. However, the same handicapped strategy will be applied for Smackdown main event, as well. He booked AJ Styles, Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura against Owens and Zayn in a 3-on-2 handicapped match.
The opening contest of Smackdown featured Becky Lynch against Ruby Riott. It was her first match after coming back. Charlotte Flair and Naomi were standing at the ringside to neutralise the Riott Squad. So, Becky picked up a smooth win. She connected with the Bexploder Suplex and then locked in the armbar to make Riott tap out.
In the United States Championship tournament, Mojo Rawley competed against Zack Ryder. Bobby Roode was present at the ringside area to watch his potential opponent. Countering Ryder’s knee attack, Mojo was able to hit a big elbow to the head to pick up the win. After the match, he had a staredown with Roode to end the show.
Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin complained about getting robbed of their title opportunity, last week. Daniel Bryan showed up addressing the incident that took place last week where the contenders pinned the wrong Uso twin. He further booked a 2 out of 3 falls tag title match at Royal Rumble.
The Ascension suffered a pinfall loss at the hands of The Bludgeon Brothers who dominated the contest. Rusev cut a promo before their tag team match where he teamed up with Aiden English to take on Breezango. Fandango was able to roll him up quickly to pick up the upset win.
Shane McMahon restarted the handicapped main event in a no count match. However, Owens and Zayn tried to get themselves disqualified to get the match restarted again in a No DQ capacity. Shinsuke Nakamura hit the Kinshasa and Orton connected with the RKO for the win.
