Smackdown hosted the Hell in a Cell PPV in a significant way that involved a notable swerve in the end. Going forward, we were scheduled to see a pretty significant fallout on this edition of the show. The latest episode was also supposed to start the initial build-up for the Survivor Series PPV. Check out the results from this week’s Smackdown hosted by the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The show got kicked off with the new tag champions; The Usos come out to the ring to address their bygone Hell in a Cell match against The New Day. The former champs also came out to have another confrontation with their bitter rivals. They signalled the end of their rivalry and a new tag team to challenge the champs shortly.
The Hype Bros, Chad Gable-Shelton Benjamin, The Ascension and Breezango came out to declare their intention to become the new contenders. Daniel Bryan booked them in a fatal-4-way match with the winner getting a shot at the Usos’ championship.
Despite Breezango being in control for the better part of the match, Benjamin and Gable gained the upper hand. They hit the bodyslam-top rope splash combo to get the pinfall win and become new challengers for the Smackdown tag team titles.
The Smackdown Women’s champion Natalya had a confrontation with Lana & Tamina at the backstage area. Carmella showed up, as well gloating about the MITB briefcase. Later, Charlotte also joined them only to get insulted by the champion. This led to a backstage brawl which was stopped by the referees.
Inside the ring, Carmella squared off against Becky Lynch in a singles contest. The heel one dominated the most of the match with Ellsworth standing by her side who was creating distractions for Becky. But, the Irish lady pulled off a submission win out of nowhere by locking in the Dis-arm-her.
Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura teamed up on Smackdown against the ally of Rusev & Aiden English. Nakamura was on a roll for the better part of the match. Rusev was neutralised by an RKO by Orton whereas Nakamura connected with the Kinshasa on English to pick up an easy win.
Kevin Owens came out to address the crowd and boasted about his win against Shane McMahon. He welcomed Sami Zayn as an angel from heaven for helping him out at Hell in a Cell. Zayn pointed out that he tried to warn Shane about Owens, but he did not listen. Instead, he tried to destroy his former best friend. So, he had no choice but to interfere. Owens and Zayn hugged it out to end the segment.
Bobby Roode called out Dolph Ziggler for attacking him after their match on Sunday Night PPV. The show-off made the new entrance with less music and had another heated confrontation with Roode. Ziggler demanded a rematch against the former NXT star. But, the heel one backed off. Later, we learned that the match would take place, next week.
In the main event of Smackdown Live, AJ Styles had his US title rematch against Baron Corbin. The champ went for his finishing move, but Styles delivered the Pele Kick. But, he could not capitalise since Corbin put him down with a vicious body slam on the floor. Later, he hit the End of Days to pick up a pinfall win. Corbin closed the show by celebrating with his title.
