We will witness the returning Elimination Chamber PPV this Sunday. Prior to that, it was the final edition of Smackdown Live which was able to build the final hype of the PPV to the fullest. A blockbuster main event match was already scheduled on the show between John Cena and Randy Orton. Here’s what further went down on the show which was taped at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington.
Daniel Bryan kicked off the show
The Smackdown General Manager opened the show with a thunderous ovation from the crowd. This home state crowd broke out in a loud “Daniel Bryan” chant as the Miz came out to shut the people up. He was further interrupted by Baron Corbin, Dean Ambrose, and the former WWE champion, AJ Styles. With the four participants engaging in war of words, Bryan made a fatal-4-way match in the opening segment of the show.
Fatal-4-way match
The Miz wanted to team up with Corbin to dominate Styles and Ambrose. The Lone Wolf momentarily stuck to the task before Ambrose & Styles got back into the contest. The finishing moments saw Styles putting Miz down with the forearm. But, Maryse pulled his husband outside the ring. Meanwhile, Corbin hit the End of Days to Styles to pick up the win.
Tom Phillips interviewed Nikki & Natalya
The two bitter rivals were interviewed by Smackdown announcer, Tom Phillips from different locations. Natalya went on to blast Nikki again with comments about John Cena. She said that John does not care about Nikki as now he has become the champion. He will leave her girlfriend after this Sunday because Nattie is going to defeat Nikki in her home state of Phoenix.
Dolph Ziggler vs. Apollo Crews
It was a quick match up with Crews avoiding a super kick and rolling Ziggler up for the win. The show-off was not done for obvious and went on to attack with a steel chair in hand. Kalisto came out for help but caught with the chair, as well. Ziggler left the ring after putting both of them down with chair shots.
Dual contract signing for Elimination Chamber
The Smackdown women’s championship match between Alexa Bliss and Naomi was made official with the contract signing. Plus, an anticipated singles match between Becky Lynch and Mickie James was also made for this Sunday. After a verbal confrontation, the four participants started brawling inside the ring. The babyfaces picked up the upper hand after Naomi put the heels down with a jump from the top rope.
12-man Tag Team match
All the Tag Teams on Smackdown were involved in the contest as American Alpha, Breezango, Heath Slater, and Rhyno took on the team of The Usos, The Vaudevillains, and The Ascension. The Ascension picked up some momentum after Viktor hit Rhyno with a jumping knee from the corner. They earned the pinfall on the man-beast with this.
John Cena vs. Randy Orton
WWE fans broke out into loud chants for Cena as he hit the ring to have the non-title match against Randy Orton. After a tight contest, Luke Harper showed up to create a distraction for Orton. He neutralized Wyatt with a discuss clothesline. Orton went for an RKO to him but he pushed him to Cena who connected with the AA to pick up the win. Cena celebrated with his championship as Smackdown came to an end.
