This week’s WWE Smackdown had a Women’s Tag Team Championship match scheduled on the show as one of the co-main-events. A masked WWE Superstar interfered during the match which allowed the champions to retain. Once the bout was over, it appears a returning superstar was trying to leave her mark.
Damage CTRL – Dakota Kai and IYO SKY defended their Women’s Tag Team Championships against Tegan Nox and Liv Morgan in the opening match of WWE SmackDown, last night. This match also marked the in-ring return of Tegan Nox who recently returned to the WWE after being released from the promotion, last November.

It was on the December 9 episode of WWE Smackdown that Liv Morgan continued to showcase her crazy side that she picked since losing the women’s title to Ronda Rousey at Extreme Rules and thus tried to take out DAMAGE CTRL by herself. Nox came out to make the save and it started their tag team, leading to last night’s Women’s Tag Team Championship match.
Xia Li’s interference on WWE Smackdown allowed champions to retain
DAMAGE CTRL leader Bayley was at ringside for the match and watched on as Dakota and IYO were in the controller’s position. Nox and Morgan fired back, forcing Bayley to interfere. Nox sent The Role Model over the barricade when a masked superstar attacked her. Damage CTRL capitalized on the attack as IYO connected with her pendant Moonsault on Nox for the pinfall victory on WWE Smackdown.
After IYO SKY and Dakota Kai headed backstage as still the Women’s Tag Team Champions, the masked superstar was caught by WWE security. WWE Official Adam Pearce was the one to unmask the attacker and she was revealed to be Xia Li. This marked her first appearance on WWE Smackdown since she called Emma weak as the latter lost her returning match against Ronda Rousey, a few weeks ago.
Originally, Xia Li debuted for WWE in 2017 by competing in the Mae Young Classic tournament. She was part of a faction on NXT before getting the call-up on the main roster last December. Despite the initial heavy presentation, she hasn’t been much used on WWE Smackdown since then. Plus, the babyface character has also been converted into a heel for no such particular reason.
