The final SmackDown before SummerSlam 2021 will be presented this week as WWE looks to gather all the last-minute builds for the PPV event. The two main-eventers of the PPV are likely to be in attendance of the show in another face-off and so will be Edge and Seth Rollins before their dream match. Plus, the Women’s Title match buildup will also continue when tonight’s show emanates from the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
Two of the most iconic Superstars of the WWE of the modern generation are all set to collide at SummerSlam as John Cena challenges Roman Reigns for the Universal Title. Last week, the duo had engaged in a heated verbal war which took the IWC by storm and thereby took SmackDown ratings to the peak.
As Summer of Cena reportedly comes to an end this Sunday night, this could be the final night for the Cenation Leader to appear on WWE TV, for now. WWE is currently advertising Cena as well as the Universal Champion Roman Reigns to be present at the same building at the same time as things could go physical for them, for the first time since Cena’s return on TV.
WWE Smackdown Preview (20/08/21): Women’s Title picture
In the SmackDown Women’s Title picture, Sasha Banks is hell-bent not allowing Bianca Belair to steal her spotlight, ever again. During the contract signing segment, she made it clear again by attacking the champion with small help from Carmella and Zelina Vega. Banks seemed vicious than ever while locking in the Bank Statement submission on the contract table.
Following that segment, there have been some doubts about the much-anticipated rematch as the two participants missed house shows in North and South Carolina. But per the reports from PWInsider, the match is on and both the competitors should be present at the Footprint Center to continue the storyline for the matchup. We assume Belair would be looking forward to getting revenge on Banks for her recent attacks.
WWE Summerslam 2021: Potential Winners Revealed From Big Matches
Baron Corbin lost a match to Kevin Owens on last week’s SmackDown after getting hit with a Stunner and a roll-up. After the match, Kayla Braxton caught up with Corbin, backstage and asked what’s next. Before he could respond, Corbin noticed Big E’s briefcase and decided to run away with it. Big E then gave a chase to end the segment.
WWE then released a post-SmackDown video where we saw that Corbin left the arena with Big E’s Money In the Bank briefcase. Corbin also ranted about how he’s going to be rich and the next champion. The chase should continue for E, this week which should lead to a future matchup over the MITB briefcase between these two.
King Shinsuke Nakamura has become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion as he captured the prestigious belt by defeating Apollo Crews, last week. After the referee ejected Rick Boogs and Commander Azeez from ringside, Nakamura earned a clean pinfall win by hitting the Kinshasa finisher. Will the new champion be booked to defend his title at SummerSlam? We’ll find out on the SmackDown go-home episode of SummerSlam 2021.
