Mandy Rose cut a backstage promo by challenging Sonya Deville in a Hair vs Hair match at SummerSlam. It was later accepted by Deville to make the match official.

Sheamus vs. Shorty G was the next match on SmackDown where G hit a missile drop-kick and applied the Ankle Lock. Sheamus got out of it and hit a White Noise followed by a Brogue Kick to win the bout.

WWE Intercontinental Champion AJ Styles came out on SmackDown to mention how there’s no one worthy to challenge him for the title at SummerSlam. Jeff Hardy appeared and mentioned how cool it’d be to see them squaring off for that title. AJ denied the proposal and rather verbally attack him. Hardy took some shots on Styles to keep him down and leave the ring.

Gran Metalik vs. Shinsuke Nakamura took place, next on SmackDown where Cesaro was trying to interrupt Metalik. Kalisto made his return to WWE surprising Cesaro and Nakamura. Kalisto hit a DDT on Cesaro at the ramp distracting Nakamura. Metalik took advantage of the situation and hit a big Elbow Drop to get the win.
