Rey Mysterio ended up scaring the WWE Universe during the latest episode of Smackdown, this past Friday Night. The big news coming out of the episode was an injury scare regarding the legendary pro-wrestling figure who was initially determined to be out of action for weeks to follow.
As seen on the show, Santos Escobar defeated Rey Mysterio via Doctor’s Stoppage to become the Number-One Contender for the United States Championship. It was informed by the commentators during the match that The Master of 619 got hurt after he was met with a Suicide Dive by Escobar and his head hit hard on the floor. The doctor checked on the victim and determined that the WWE Hall of Famer can’t continue. As a result, Escobar received a bye to the United States Title championship match.

Conflicting reports continued to arrive regarding Rey Mysterio’s injury status after his match against Santos Escobar on Smackdown. It was further reported that the WWE Hall of Famer was doing just fine. During the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, it was noted that he was doing okay. However, it’s still unknown whether or not he has suffered a concussion or if there’s a plan for him to take time off WWE programming.
Rey Mysterio’s injury not believed to be a fatal one
A good indication of his health came by the end of the segment on Smackdown as Rey Mysterio was able to stand on his own feet to congratulate Escobar and thus he put over the LWO member following his victory. This scene also started rumors of the injury being a kayfabe one just so that Escobar can escape with the win against the legend.
It’s yet to be seen how long Rey Mysterio will remain out of action but in the meantime, he’s set to appear on next week’s NXT to provide back a future version of himself. At Bash 2023, Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley verbally blasted Dragon Lee as the latter called him a “wannabe Rey Mysterio” and Dominik called him an “unoriginal” for looking like his father.
During the latest episode of NXT, it was announced that Lee was going to get a match for the North American Title. Plus, Mysterio Sr. appeared on the tron to inform that he will be present in Lee’s corner during the match.
