The two franchise figures are set to collide against one another on the final edition of WWE Smackdown within two weeks of time. A big match for Roman Reigns has been announced for the December 30th episode to which John Cena was added, making it one of the biggest encounters on WWE’s weekly television show in recent memory.
During last night’s edition of WWE Smackdown, Roman Reigns and Jimmy Uso had a conversation backstage as the latter was wondering what Roman could possibly have in store for Sami Zayn‘s “big night” that’s the show itself. Roman said he wanted to talk to WWE Official Adam Pearce and subsequently, Paul Heyman called him into The Tribal Chief’s locker room.

Roman then said that he wanted to team up with Sami Zayn against Kevin Owens and a partner of the latter’s choice. Heyman suggested that December 30 could be a perfect date for the match. This would also be the night where John Cena will be returning on WWE SmackDown from the Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay, Florida.
Then during the end of the last night’s WWE SmackDown, The Bloodline came to the ring in what was originally planned to be a huge segment dedicated to Sami Zayn. However, John Cena would interrupt by appearing on the titantron as he confirmed that he will be Kevin Owens’ tag team partner against Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn on December 30.

John Cena to be heavily promoted ahead of WWE Smackdown appearance
This fell in line with the reports from Fightful Select heading into the Friday Night show where the source reported that there’s been talk of seeing Cena on WWE TV even before the final TV taping of the year,
“There have been discussions within WWE and even plans to integrate Cena into upcoming episodes of WWE SmackDown even before he arrives.”
Some sort of “video presence” was indicated and that’s exactly how things have gone down on the show. It’s certain that the Cenation Leader’s return to WWE programming is something huge and WWE intends to promote him heavily over the two weeks to make the December 30 WWE Smackdown a “must-watch.”
Pitting John Cena against Roman Reigns is something that WWE fans just can’t afford to miss and that’s something the company will offer them. Interestingly, Cena’s last match was also against Roman Reigns where he came up short in a Universal Title match at Summerslam 2021.
