Various reports before WrestleMania 39 suggested that the new team of Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler was planned to win the Women’s Tag Team Championships. In fact, that was the reason why the team of Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Lita headed into the Show of Shows as the reigning champions in the first place to produce a marquee match from the women’s division.
However, these plans had to be changed due to Ronda Rousey suddenly re-aggravating a forearm injury on the Road to WrestleMania 39. The UFC Hall of Famer wasn’t fit enough to compete at the event due to her injury and she was rightfully kept out of action prior to it. She participated in a WrestleMania Showcase Fatal-4-Way Tag Team encounter instead of going after the tag titles.

Those changes in WWE’s booking saw Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez winning the titles on the April 10 episode of Raw. In a follow-up, Dave Meltzer shared an update regarding the Women’s Tag Team Championships on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and explained that the original title run plans are put on hold due to the fact that Ronda Rousey isn’t yet ready to return to the ring from her current injury,
“The Rousey & Baszler chase of the women’s tag title is on hold because Rousey is still out of action with her broken forearm. She did WrestleMania because it was WrestleMania in Los Angeles, but was clearly not ready and still isn’t ready to return.”

Ronda Rousey herself wanted to perform at WrestleMania 39
It’s obvious that Ronda Rousey showed up at WrestleMania 39 with an injury and it was reportedly because of her carefree mentality regarding the injury. Even though she was not 100% ready to compete, she still wanted to be at the Show of Shows. It was also mentioned by the source that she adopted that mentality from her mother, AnnMaria De Mars, who herself was a complete sporting woman,
“It was noted to us that her mentality regarding the injury was basically, ‘F*** it,’ she’s doing WrestleMania no matter what, basically because of her mentality from both herself and her mom regarding competing in real sports while injured.”
WWE took all the measures to protect Ronda Rousey in that WrestleMania Showcase match. She submitted Shotzi via the armbar submission to secure the victory, and that was her only involvement in the entire match which was a clear hint that she was being kept out of any physical contact. This was also the reason why she was inserted into a multi-person match where other women covered her up. Even three weeks after WrestleMania, she still isn’t ready to be back in action.
