WWE SmackDown is the second longest-running weekly television show in history just after Monday Night Raw. It has gone through changes when it comes to staging designs and theatrical modifications. The original stage design known as The Ovaltron was quite a popular one which the company put to use until 2001.

The Ovaltron was eventually replaced with the iconic Fist Stage, which became synonymous with the Ruthless Aggression Era. Fans who were viewers of the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Era of WWE Smackdown are quite familiar with both these stages which brought out the intensity of the WWE programming.

One of those stages recently returned outside WWE programming. Wrestling fans on social media have pointed out how the podium for the ongoing Beijing Winter Olympics closely resembles the original WWE SmackDown stage featuring The Ovaltron. The blue color was also retained which appeared to be an out-an-out replica.

Fans couldn’t resist but to declare their thoughts on the happening and some of those are given below:

WWE Smackdown was well-known for set designs

WWE SmackDown Ovaltron design had four oval strips on the entrance, and also a small oval screen in the back which was rather a curtain shaped up to be an oval. The oval-centric design wasn’t the only shape in that entrance area of the stage. On the right, the stage had another giant oval screen to display matches. Also, the background of the stage was covered with a cloth shaped like a diamond. (info courtesy Wrestling INC)

Back in a May episode of 2021, WWE Smackdown went old school for a one-night-only tradition. It was dubbed as a “Go Back” edition of the show. As the news broke, fans on social media started clamoring to bring back the Giant Fist that remained on the Blue Brand from 2001 until 2008. But in reality, WWE didn’t bring it back but only used it via a virtual presentation.

WWE Smackdown has currently been airing on FOX which has no separate design from Raw. At coming Wrestlemania 38, the blue brand is likely to have both the main-event championship matches on the card with Ronda Rousey challenging Charlotte Flair for the Women’s Title. Also, Brock Lesnar will challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Title.
