On an eventful episode of WWE Smackdown, this week, the process of crowning the new challengers for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Title was announced. This came alongside the unification of Women’s Tag Team Championships, Charlotte Flair’s return, the new WWE Women’s Championship introduction, Money in the Bank 2023 qualifiers, and much more.
As announced on WWE Smackdown, a gauntlet match will go down on next week’s episode where the winner will earn a shot at the Unified WWE Tag Team Championships held by Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.

The announcement came after a backstage segment where The Street Profits, The Brawling Brutes, The O.C., The Latino World Order, and Pretty Deadly came together and they all expressed their desire to face Owens and Zayn for the titles. WWE Official Adam Pearce then made the gauntlet match official for the June 16 episode of WWE Smackdown as all five teams will enter the contest to earn the right to a championship match on a later date.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn previously retained their tag titles on April 28 WWE Smackdown
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn became the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions in the WWE as they defeated The Usos in the main event of Night One of Wrestlemania 39. In the latest, they defeated Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa at WWE Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia with a big help from Jimmy Uso. In the main event match, Jimmy ended up turning on his Tribal Chief with a superkick to him and he got banished from The Bloodline, afterward.
The tag team champions have previously defeated The Street Profits – Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins on WWE Raw after WrestleMania 39. As noted above, this title defense had begun just two days earlier after they ended the longest reign of The Usos at Wrestlemania. Zayn and Owens then also retained their tag team titles against The Usos in a rematch from Wrestlemania during the April 28 episode of WWE Smackdown.
Heading into this week’s WWE Smackdown, BWE tweeted out behind their private Twitter account to reveal the plans to crown the new number-one contenders for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship. They did reveal a Gauntlet Match which was eventually confirmed for next week.
