One of the top WWE SmackDown talents, Big E suffered a broken neck during a tag team match, last year. Heading into WrestleMania 38, The Brawling Brutes member threw E with a released German suplex which could not be executed as planned. E landed hard on his neck to pick up a nasty injury that immediately stopped his career and created uncertainties around it.
The former WWE Champion hasn’t since been able to compete in the ring or appear on WWE SmackDown. Being a popular WWE Superstar, fans are eagerly waiting when he could possibly return to the WWE programming but there are still not many positive updates about it. However, if he can be able to make it back to in-ring competition then chances are high that WWE would arrange a mega feud for him.
WWE Smackdown: Title Plans On Hold For Top Superstar Due To Injury
As seen on the April 21 episode of WWE SmackDown, Gunther defeated Xavier Woods to retain his Intercontinental Championship and continue his historic title reign. According to the reports of WRKD Wrestling, WWE wants to organize a feud between The New Day and Imperium. Down the road, it should lead to a big match with the lineup of Gunther vs. Big E for the Intercontinental Championship.

The New Day vs. Imperium feud planned on WWE SmackDown for future?
The source reported the following about the possible planning given the condition that Big E gets cleared to return on WWE SmackDown,
“Despite a loss to Gunther on SmackDown, one long-term backstage pitch has seen Xavier Woods and a fully healed Big E and Kofi Kingston feuding with Imperium once the New Day are ready to return. The centerpiece for the feud would be Big E facing Gunther.”
It should be noted that Xavier Woods is the only New Day member who is currently appearing on WWE SmackDown. Kofi Kingston is currently out of action with an injury, as well. As for Big E, he did not require surgery after his injury but that didn’t prepone his ability to wrestle. However, The New Day member was seen working out in the gym weeks after suffering a broken neck.
Meanwhile, Ringside News reached out to confirm the story about the above-mentioned feuds. Unfortunately, they were told there’s no truth to the booking idea as noted by WRKD Wrestling. A tenured member of the WWE creative team told RSN that, “if Big E can ever return, the writing team has not been officially informed yet.” Therefore, this “pitched” idea about New Day vs. Imperium was reported to be not a legit one.
