WWE Smackdown Live was hosted this week live from the Quicken Loans arena in Cleveland, Ohio on the USA Network.
Last week, we saw an epic match between Cena and Ambrose. After a terrific encounter, Ambrose pinned Cena clean in the middle of the ring on Smackdown. It was after 7 long years when Cena was defeated on Smackdown in a clean match which saw no interference.
This paved the way for Ambrose to get his due one-on-one rematch against AJ Styles for the WWE World title. Last week, Ambrose stood tall to close the show upstaging both his opponents inside the ring. This week, though the story was a little different. AJ Styles is not someone who goes without planning. He just held the title at the Backlash PPV and hence was not ready to give away the most coveted prize, just like that.
With that being said we got John Cena as a special guest at the commentary table for the main event of Smackdown. Prior to the match, AJ claimed that how he will retain the championship and talk of the town. Ambrose was at his fiery best after gaining momentum from last week. So, we witnessed an epic battle between these warriors at the battlefield of the blue brand.
The two superstars brought out their absolute best to gain the most coveted prize in the sports entertainment today. There were a number of near falls before the contest rolled out of the ring. Styles decided to engage in a war of words with Cena.
Cena then got into the ring to distract the referee and that was enough for the Phenomenal One to capitalize with his dirty games. This time, he pulled the tights of Ambrose to get the pinfall and retain his title on Smackdown Live. After the match, Cena made a bold statement by putting both his opponents down with AAs and holding the WWE World title high above his head.
