WWE Smackdown World Cup 2022 is coming up from this week onward, offering a new reason to be amped up for the male roster members. While the participants are yet to be revealed, the prize for the winner of this world cup has been revealed and it will come as a championship opportunity.

During this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, an ad aired regarding the WWE Smackdown World Cup 2022 It was noted that the winner of the tournament will receive a future shot at GUNTHER’s Intercontinental Title. While we know nothing in detail about the tourney, WWE has been advertising it to begin from this week’s episode of Smackdown, this Friday night.

In an update for WWE Smackdown World Cup 2022, the official website of the company offered the following,

“With the FIFA World Cup due to start this month, WWE will host a World Cup tournament of its own! The SmackDown World Cup on FOX will begin next week with an array of international Superstars due to take part.

The winner of the tournament will receive an Intercontinental Championship Match against Gunther, so the stakes are extremely high.

Who will emulate soccer powerhouses like Germany, Brazil and Italy in their effort to become the first-ever SmackDown World Cup winner? Find out next week at 8/7 C on FOX!”

International Superstars to participate in WWE Smackdown World Cup 2022

The possible eight Superstars who will be competing in the WWE Smackdown World Cup 2022 tourney will be representing eight different countries. Some of the global Superstars that could be a part of the tourney are Drew McIntyre (Scotland), Sheamus (Republic of Ireland), Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER (Austria), Santos Escobar (Mexico), Sami Zayn (Canada) and Shinsuke Nakamura (Japan).

From the women’s side, some of the international names on the blue brand are Natalya (Canada), Xia Li (China), Emma (Australia), and Raquel Rodriguez (Mexico) but there’s no update on whether these names will be allowed to join WWE Smackdown World Cup 2022 or not.

it’s unknown if WWE has similar plans for a World Cup around Raw but WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H recently confirmed plans around “World Cup-type scenarios” on WWE programming going for mainstay NXT and the upcoming NXT Europe brands.
