John Cena remains one of the biggest names and flagbearer personas in professional wrestling, no matter what his current status in this industry holds. After staying the face of WWE for well over a decade, he’s become a part-timer for the past several years. Away from the squared circle, he’s having a busy schedule in Hollywood.
After appearing in the consecutive ninth and tenth installments of the Fast & Furious series, the next big project for him was to feature in the Barbie movie in a short role. As much as it seems to be a surprise, he opted to play the offered role in the much-touted movie upon request from the lead actress Margot Robbie.
During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Margot Robbie, and Ryan Gosling were asked about John Cena’s unexpected appearance in Barbie. Robbie revealed that she was the reason behind bringing the WWE Superstar on board.

Margot Robbie had an interesting run-in with John Cena in London
While filming in London, the top-notch Hollywood Superstar enjoyed a meal. Before going to pay the bill, she learned that the 16-time world champion had already taken care of it. Afterward, she was pleased enough to let know of a role in the movie and he gladly accepted the character upon that one request.
“I found him and I was like, ‘What are you doing here?’ He was shooting at (Warner Bros Studios) Leavesden where we shot the film as well and I was like, ‘That’s where we’re shooting Barbie’ and I was like, ‘Do you wanna come be a Merman in Barbie?’ He was like, ‘Uh, yeah’ and I was like, surely he’s not gonna agree to it just like that and he did. He’s so awesome like that,” Robbie shared her experience with John Cena.
For those who don’t know, the Cenation Leader spent a lot of time last year in London to wrap up the schedule for a spy-thriller project reportedly named Argylle. Coincidentally, John Cena had been shooting at the same studio where ‘Barbie’ was being filmed. After getting approached by Robbie, he agreed on playing the role of a Merman.
As for his WWE career, John Cena appeared on TV at the Money in the Bank premium live event and teased that Wrestlemania was probably coming to London. However, there’s no official on WWE’s part on whether they’re legit thinking of taking the Show of Shows, overseas.
