The Universal Championship changed hands on two different occasions on the Road to Wrestlemania 36 that some of the fans may have not liked. The WWE fans did not expect to see Goldberg as the reigning champion en route to the 36th edition of the showcase of immortals, at all.

But WWE saw money in this short-run and did not back down from giving him the second run with the Universal title.

WWE Announces Champion’s Appearance & Wrestlemania Rematch For Smackdown

Originally, Goldberg was scheduled to face Roman Reigns in a fantasy ‘spear vs spear’ warfare at Wrestlemania 36. But that match did not happen amid coronavirus pandemic as the challenger withdrew his name from in-ring competition. Roman’s body was immunocompromised due to his earlier battle with Leukemia and he did not want to take risks.

As a result, Goldberg ended up facing Braun Strowman at Wrestlemania 36 and dropping the Universal Championship to him. Reports from wrestleTALK suggest that this is the last of Goldberg that we have seen in a long time.

Major Concerns Over Roman Reigns’ WWE Status After Wrestlemania 36

His current deal with the WWE is over and he is not intending to extend it, anymore. This is why he lost the Universal title to the Monster Among Men. Here’s more courtesy of mandatory.com,

“It was noted that Goldberg had no intention of adding more dates to his deal, so it was clear that whoever replaced Roman Reigns in the match was leaving with the title. While it looks like Goldberg might not be looking to make any more appearances on his end, our source also noted that the “creative change” in Saudi Arabia might be a reason for WWE not rushing to get him back for more appearances either.”

According to a source speaking with Wrestlezone, the original outcome for the winner of the Bray Wyatt vs. Goldberg match at WWE Super Showdown was a last-minute decision.

The Myth himself decided to have ‘creative control’ of the match and wanted to go over The Fiend so that the kids can still consider him as a superhero. WWE also received a suitable name in him who can put an end to the undefeated streak to the demonic character.

Thus, Goldberg became a two-time Universal Champion in the WWE who must not be having any regret of dropping the belt to Braun Strowman who himself is a monster persona. Chances of damaging his on-screen image were thus minimized.
