Carmella had been a solid champion on Smackdown for the past few months. We could barely think of seeing a good championship run from her. However, her mic promos and heelish attitude have been outstanding, so far. The top-notch performance from her extended the title reign to Summerslam.
Initially, Becky Lynch was the one who became the number one contender for her title on Smackdown. She pinned her clean a few weeks ago to earn the opportunity at Summerslam. It was after one and a half year that the popular superstars had a title opportunity. Her rejoicing moments soon turned into a nightmare with the entry of Charlotte Flair.
The Queen returned to the scene from a plastic surgery to go straight into the title picture. She pinned Carmella in a singles contest to get a championship opportunity. Thereafter, Smackdown GM confirmed a triple threat match at Summerslam. It created a short rift between the two good friends, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair.
They had to leave everything behind them to capitalize on this opportunity. Charlotte Flair came out first at Summerslam to begin the Smackdown women’s championship match. She had a pink robe for the first time in her career. Becky Lynch came out next with Carmella following her. She too showed innovation in her ring-gear which had a pink-black combination.
Carmella took early control of the match with a boot to Charlotte Flair. Becky saved her friend attacking the champion. But Carmella hit a shot to the back of Becky Lynch and hid under the ring. Lynch thought it was Charlotte who did this. So they started arguing in the middle of the ring. Carmella sent Charlotte into the ring post and Becky into the steel steps to capitalize.
But Becky Lynch fought back and was able to lock the arm-bar on Charlotte. Carmella broke it up to save her title reign at Summerslam. The champion hit a super-kick on Becky only for Charlotte to break it. Becky Lynch connected with an exploder and an arm-bar. Charlotte came from the back and hit the Natural Selection to become new Smackdown women’s champion.

We witnessed an upset Becky Lynch after the match. She attacked Charlotte Flair to the pleasure of the Summerslam crowd. The Irish lady dropped a number of shots to the new champion. She sent her over the announce table before leaving the building.
