WWE Summerslam 2020: 4 Big Matches Canceled From The Bygone PPV 1

Asuka vs. Natalya – RAW Women’s Championship Match

As per the reports of Wrestling Observer, there was a plan that a wrestler would injure Kairi Sane to write her off WWE programming. Her contract is about to expire and she’s expected to go back to Japan. The attacker would then challenge Asuka for the RAW Women’s Championship at SummerSlam.

It was also informed by the source that Natalya was originally supposed to injure Sane and set up the title match at SummerSlam 2020. But plans had to change as Natalya’s husband, TJ Wilson, got sick and she was also advised to stay at home. In changed circumstances, Natalya was paired up with Lana as they could form a Women’s tag team in the future.

Roman Reigns vs. The Fiend – Universal Championship Match

The Fiend Bray Wyatt moved to SmackDown during the Draft, last year as he was destined to have a feud with Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. The match was rumored to take place at WrestleMania 36. But then Vince McMahon brought back Goldberg and decided to have him square off against Reigns for the Title as this match was considered to be a bigger draw.

Reigns vs. Goldberg never happened as The Big Dog pulled himself out of WrestleMania 36 at the last moment. Braun Strowman replaced him and defeated Goldberg to win the Universal Championship.

WWE then wanted to put Roman Reigns against The Fiend at SummerSlam 2020. But then pulled off a surprise comeback at the show and reserve a future booking for the match.
