Although no official news is available regarding SummerSlam 2021 from WWE’s side, rumor has that the predicted date for the event will have to be moved around. For the very first time ever, the PPV event is reportedly being scheduled for a Saturday night instead of Sunday. Saturday, August 21, could be the new date, according to Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men podcast.
The Sunday, August 22 date had been reported by multiple sources for SummerSlam 2021, but now the speculations suggest that the event will be held the night before. Zarian added that his sources were “very surprised” due to the Saturday booking and this could be an internal error of dates. Another Vegas source alongside @Wrestlevotes also reported the Saturday date with the note that it is currently “provisional” to the company.

It was noted by the Sports Business Journal that “The weekend of Aug. 21-22 is under consideration.” Brad Shepard has also reported on May 21st that Saturday, August 21st was under consideration for SummerSlam 2021. Additional news suggests that WWE has a big headache to deal with if they do move the PPV a day later especially if it’s getting hosted in Las Vegas.
WWE preponing Summerslam 2021 due to the Manny Pacquiao fight?
Manny Pacquiao’s return to boxing was announced on May 21st for that August 22 date. That being said, WWE wouldn’t have the biggest ticket sale in Vegas with SummerSlam 2021 against Pacquiao vs Spence Jr contest. But it might not change WWE’s plans for that particular weekend of August and hence the event could be preponed for a day. WrestleVotes has also supported this theory.
Regarding the venue of SummerSlam 2021, Andrew Zarian also tweeted out to report that “I can confirm that SummerSlam will take place at Allegiant Stadium.” WWE always wanted an outdoor setup for SummerSlam 2021 venue and this particular one can offer the same with its special roof and doors despite not having a retractable roof. It can also extend the fan capacity up to 72000.
If WWE does choose Allegiant Stadium for SummerSlam 2021 then it will be the first time since 1992 that the PPV will be held in a stadium in the United States. Back in that year, the event was held at the Wembley Stadium in England.
Reports from Sports Business Journal also mentioned that six venues are currently under consideration for the biggest event of the summer and those are Hard Rock Stadium in Miami (Dolphins), SoFi Stadium near Los Angeles (Rams/Chargers), NRG Stadium in Houston (Texans), MetLife Stadium in New Jersey (Giants/Jets), Nissan Stadium in Nashville (Titans), and Allegiant Stadium.
