One of the biggest news coming out of Summerslam 2022 was the return of Bayley after a long wait of more than a year. Interestingly, she wasn’t alone while making her way back to the company. With two former NXT Superstars by her side, the cornerstone figure of the WWE is now looking forward to taking control back of the women’s division.
In the opening match of Summerslam 2022, Bianca Belair defeated Becky Lynch to retain the RAW Women’s Championship. In a solid outing, Belair sought redemption on Becky by pinning her in a clean manner. The duo also shared an emotional moment after the match showing respect for each other.
Afterward, former Women’s Champion Bayley made her return from injury at Summerslam 2022 amid huge pop from the crowd. She also brought former NXT wrestler Dakota Kai and former NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai (now known as IYO SKY) with her as the trio now intends to act as a faction on Monday nights.
According to PWInsider, things around putting the stable together came together so late that the name Iyo Sky wasn’t trademarked until July 31, the day after SummerSlam 2022. In general, WWE likes to trademark character names well before they debut. But that was not the case for Io as the video graphics still showed the Io Shirai name on the tron.
Triple H put together a last-minute idea for Summerslam 2022
The source also noted that while Bayley was expected to be at SummerSlam 2022 there were no concrete plans for her after Vince McMahon stepped down from his position and Triple H came in charge to take over things in the creative team. Even Dakota appeared on WWE’s The Bump in the latest and revealed that the decision to put together this stable was a last-minute idea.
PWInsider also added that Dakota wasn’t included in the original plans for SummerSlam 2022. The WWE star was in fact released by the promotion back in April and after the expiry of her no-compete clause, she’s been a free agent. With Triple H in charge, she was contacted at the last minute and didn’t travel to Nashville, the host city of SummerSlam, until the night before.
While nothing is confirmed yet, Bayley hinted that the group may be called Control in a previous tweet shortly made after SummerSlam 2022 went off the air. Over on Raw, they attacked Becky Lynch and then brawled with Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair, Asuka, and Alexa Bliss.
