After an unusual wait, the match card for Summerslam 2023 gradually started shaping up from this week’s episode of Raw. It started with Cody Rhodes coming out for a promo session with his mother sitting in the front row since the show was in their hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.
To interrupt Cody, Brock Lesnar’s theme music hit the State Farm Arena but he took his time before coming out. Cody headed backstage to find him but he was beaten down with a steel chair by Lesnar. The Beast continued the assault with an F5 on the floor in front of Cody’s mother before applying the Kimura Lock multiple times.
Ronda Rousey’s 2023 WWE Run Reportedly Ending Sooner Than Later
Before leaving the ring, Lesnar stated, “Challenge accepted. I’ll see you at SummerSlam, b*tch” to accept Cody Rhodes’ earlier challenge for another rematch at Summerslam 2023. Thus Rhodes vs. Lesnar III will go down at the biggest event of the summer.
Before this match, the duo first competed at Backlash in May where Cody triumphed with a roll-up win over a busted-open Lesnar. Then at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia, Lesnar neutralized the score by winning the bout via referee stoppage. With Summerslam 2023 producing the rubber match, the ongoing feud that began the night after Wrestlemania 39 will finally be coming to an end.
World Title match declared for Summerslam 2023
Speaking of Summerslam 2023, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins will defend the title against Finn Balor who interrupted Rollins’ sit-down interview backstage on Raw before delivering a cheap shot at him. After this, the rematch from Money in the Bank 2023 was made, official for the biggest event of the summer.
Also at Summerslam 2023, Ronda Rousey will seek redemption against former bestie Shayna Baszler for turning on her at Money in the Bank 2023. Baszler defeated Nikki Cross in a match on Raw after which Rousey appeared at the stands to declare that she achieved every major accomplishment in her career, “I’m the greatest combat sports athlete of all time. You are just a knock-off version of me.”
In reply, Baszler challenged her to a match at Summerslam 2023 and it was quickly accepted as Rousey stated the following, “I’m finally going to get you booked at SummerSlam. I’ll see you in Motor City, b*tch.”
