WWE Summeslam 2018: Brock Lesnar Vs. Roman Reigns Universal Championship Match Result
WWE hosted Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns number IV at Summerslam to get attention. These two superstars are the current headliners of the company who can sell out events just like that. The Internet is always talking about them which is an additional advantage for the WWE officials. Fans will continue to talk about it even when they are not happy with the match.
This is what Vince McMahon wants the most for an event like Summerslam. It does not matter whether the talks are positive or negative. But he was successful to invest the attention of the fans into the biggest event of the summer. Also, Brock Lesnar and his UFC connection made the outcome of the marquee match extremely unpredictable.
The initial thinking was that WWE is setting this matchup for a sweet redemption in favor of Roman Reigns. The much-anticipation coronation for him was to be on the card. However, we could not wipe out the chance of WWE making Brock Lesnar a Universal and UFC Heavyweight Champion at the same time. No one has not done it before.
This could hand them a lucrative deal in the future from the UFC promotion. So the Summerslam main event took place with so much anticipation going around. Braun Strowman entered the equation as well before the title match. He knew that the crowd was anticipating a MITB cash-in. So he delivered the following quotes assuring that will not happen,
“I am the monster among men and I do things face-to-face. So good luck to you Roman. And good luck to you too, beasty boy. Because I’m gonna be standing right here this entire match and I don’t give a damn who wins because, at the end of the night, one of you two is gonna get…these…hands.”
Roman Reigns took control of the matchup from the get-go. He delivered three superman punches and followed it up with three spears. Brock Lesnar was still conscious and applied the Guillotine choke on his opponent.
Roman Reigns came back with two spine-busters on Brock Lesnar. But the beast delivered his pendant German Suplexes to counter. Lesnar went for Strowman thereafter who stood by the ringside. He hit the monster repeatedly with the briefcase and delivered an F-5 on the floor!
Maybe focusing too much on Strowman cost Brock Lesnar big times. He attacked him with a steel chair in hand. Back inside the ring, Roman Reigns caught him with a sudden spear. This earned him the championship win after a long wait. Summerslam came to an end with the Big Dog holding up the title above his head.
