After a hiatus of almost seven years, WWE is returning to India with a live event that’s being dubbed Superstar Spectacle 2023. The show appears to be happening as a result of WWE’s deal with their broadcast partner in India. WWE had signed a five-year contract extension with Sony Pictures India back in 2020 and via this, WWE had to return to India with bigger live events.

In an update, WWE announced yesterday at noon that the biggest WWE Live Event in the form of Superstar Spectacle will be happening in September of this year. WWE’s official Twitter account shared that the WWE Superstars will be heading to the city of Hyderabad on Friday, September 8 for the second-ever edition of the gimmicked event especially dedicated to the Indian audience.

WWE Superstar Spectacle 2023: Possible Bad News For Indian Fans Ahead Of Live Event 1

In an update, WWFOldSchool reports that Superstar Spectacle indeed brings good news for the Indian fans but since this event is going to take place on Friday, this will be a Raw-exclusive event. As a result, the SmackDown roster won’t be traveling to India. Hence, the Indian audience can’t expect to see Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, Charlotte Flair, Solo Sikoa, The Usos, LA Knight, Rey Mysterio, and many more for the show.

Time will tell whether Superstar Spectacle 2023 will feature at least a couple of Smackdown stars or not but for the time being, only superstars from Raw are being advertised for the upcoming show in WWE’s biggest market in the world.

Regarding this aspect, a WWE Official stated the following about the Indian wrestling market back in 2017,

“India is one of our top international markets. In terms of audience size, it is our largest. Something like 89 million Indians watched WrestleMania 33, 50 million Indians watch RAW and SmackDown every week (on Sony Ten 1 and Sony Ten 1 HD). Sunday Dhamaal has 25 million tuning in. And those are numbers greater than any other international markets we have.”
